STEM Outreach to Schools & Libraries

We bring the science to you!

Does your school, library, or non-profit host a Science Fair, STEM or STEAM Fair or Expo? Would you like New England Sci-Tech to provide a booth or educational demo table? This is the place to look at some of the possible attractions we can provide.

We generally provide our exhibits and services for free to libraries, fairs, and expos that are within close driving distance, if our schedule allows. For smaller venues, such as a school classroom visit or scout meeting visit, we will work out a fair hourly rate and small travel fee.

Please fill out the Outreach Inquiries Form at the bottom of this page.

Spectroscopy
– Full Size Robot – this IS the droid you’ve been looking for. Our mascot is available to entertain, dance, talk, and pose with you for group photos and selfies. (needs about 8×8 feet of clear space on a smooth floor)

Segway Rides – we can give supervised low-speed rides with instruction. (needs about 6×40 feet of clear space that can be coned off for safety)

– Planetary Scales – weigh yourself on the moon, Jupiter, Pluto, Mars.

– 1-hr Astronomy Exploration Package – our most popular custom program, ready to order.

– Dinosaur Eggs – touch or hold a real egg from a Hadrosaurus; 65 million years old! Learn how an astronomical event caused dinosaurs to go extinct.

– Megalodon Teeth – hold a giant tooth from a dinosaur-era shark.

– Other fossil items available; no replicas, these are real.

– Meteorites – touch a rock from outer space; weighs over 70 lbs; hold some smaller ones; learn about meteorites, asteroids, comets.

– Meteorites – for specialized classes we can bring a Mars meteorite or Lunar meteorite

– Live show about astronomy, asteroids and meteors, the scale of the universe, Stellarium, and more. A 3-D glasses component can be added. (best for a breakout room with A/V equipment

– Portable planetarium shows – live star shows or educational multimedia shows. The 5-meter diameter dome requires a room with open floor space of at least 20×30 feet by 11 feet high. There is no bottom, so students sit on the floor on small mats that we bring, and floor MUST be vacuumed and clean. Assuming a class with 1 teacher, there is room for approximately 20 elementary school children, 16 middle school children, or 12 high schoolers or adults.  Because of the expense and complexity of the planetarium, we must charge rental as shown on the “Rent our Planetarium” page.

– Amateur Radio Station – live demonstrations and instruction in radio electronics. Depending on location, inside or outside, participants may make contacts all over the US or the world. Outside we usually set up in an 8x8x8 cube tent with room for up to 8 spectators and two participants at the radios.

– Telescopes – an astronomer will bring solar or night-time telescopes to your event for indoor demonstration or outdoor educational events.

– Star Party – we work in tandem with the Amateur Telescope Makers of Boston (ATMoB) to host educational star parties. We recommend contacting them for larger group events, then contact us to provide indoor, cloudy-day backup.

– Outer Space Mural – for backdrop and photos; many kid-sized astronaut jumpsuits for kids to wear for the photos

– Star Constellations Wheel – 30-inch diameter planesphere of the northern skies, custom made by New England SciTech with 600 stars lit at the relative brightness of the actual stars. Great for learning about star magnitudes, constellations, seasons, and light pollution.

– Maker activity – astronomy themed LED night-light, light-up constellations, no soldering.

– Maker activity – simple astronomy themed LED night-light, with soldering taught.

– Maker activity – simple star finder or sundial project. Other topical projects and kits available.

– Real astronaut visit – will need funding depending on availability and travel expenses. Must fit the astronaut’s schedule, so planning for a specific date may be difficult, so several months’ advance notice is desirable. Photos with the astronaut and 8×10 autographed photos are usually included. Some may have books that can be autographed. Serious inquiries only.

– Visit from a Wookie – not Chewbacca, but a Wookie nevertheless. Serious inquiries only, as this one would have to travel to your event from a galaxy far, far away…

– Visit from Galileo – yes, we can arrange for Galileo Galilei to visit your event, show off his new “telescopio” and even provide a show that is a hit with kids and adults alike. (professional actor)
We can work in tandem to provide a modern astronomy component to complement Galileo’s program.

We have many other possible demonstrations and exhibits. Let us know what kind of exhibit, topic, or instruction you are looking for.
