HomeWorkshop: Gears and Mechanical Engineering

Gears and Mechanical Engineering, Introduction

Join us for a brand new hands-on workshop all about gears and the concept of Mechanical Engineering with Samay, a student instructor at New England Sci-Tech. This workshop is best for 4th to 8th grade students (or older novices).

This series of two 90-minute hands-on learning sessions introduces and reinforces fundamental mechanical concepts.  A primary focus is on application of these concepts on your Battlin'Bots to improve your bot.  Concepts of gear teeth, gear ratios, and gear trains are introduced and reinforced with fun experiments and demonstrations.  By the end of the workshop, a typical student should be able to apply these concepts to improve the performance of their Battlin'Bot or a typical RC car.

Class size is limited to 10 students. Students should expect to work in pairs for some activities.

The workshops are intended to be experienced in sequence, but it is OK to attend either separately.

Workshop 1 (Saturday, October 5, 10:30-12:00 pm)

Workshop 2 (Saturday, October 19, 10:30-12:00 pm)
