ARCHERY at NEST

(Quicklink: https://nescitech.org/archery)

ARCHERY at NEST is a fun way to learn a target sport, develop new skills, or improve your existing skills if you are already an archer.

Why Archery?

Archery is a recreational target sport that builds upper body strength and mental focus.

Archery is a social sport with participants from all backgrounds and ages 9 and up.

Archery can be a personal sport where one builds self-confidence and patience.

Archery can be a team sport where one learns teamwork and cooperation.

Archery teaches safety, responsibility, situational awareness, and attention to detail.

Archery can be just plain fun and an enjoyable hobby for achieving a personal best.

The Instructor

This course is taught by Bob Phinney, director of NEST, who has a level II archery certification. Bob taught archery for many years at his former school and camp in Brookline. In the 1990s he started an archery program for a Maine summer camp he directed. Bob's son was a Junior Olympic archery champion when he was 10.

The Range

Our archery range is being developed in a secluded area behind the building.
The range is youth instruction at target distances of 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 yards.
We have an arrow-stop backdrop hung to stop any stray arrows from going too far.
There is a "safety zone" of more than 100 feet beyond the arrow-stop curtain.
We have 6 lanes, so 6 people can shoot at a time in each workshop.
Lane markings are minimal while we see how the range will be used.

Our long-range plan is to add a covered platform for archers and spectators.
